One of the problems with the muses is they aren’t particularly pushy. If you decide not to listen to them (and most of us ignore them all the time), they’re not going to grab your fingers and start typing (although it certainly has happened). The way the muses work is by continuously whispering in your ear. They’re like a mosquito that won’t go away. They say things like: “Pam, wouldn’t a TV series about an ecovillage be wonderful.” “Pam, wouldn’t it be rewarding to give the world a method for breaking through blocks to divine guidance, to the creative life.” “Pam, I think you should write a book for young adults about four girls who followed their dream to be rock stars.”
Whether or not you decide to sit down at the computer and take dictation is up to you. But they’re always there, sitting on your shoulder, whispering in your ear.
I never thought of my Muse in terms of mosquito like whispers, but it is! Always there and always talking to me. What seems to depress me the most is not listening to that whisper.
